How to Extract Slides from a Video Without Taking Screenshots

See how a 9-minute presentation video becomes a clean set of slides with fixed-interval capture, AI detection, timeline corrections, and PowerPoint export.

Extracting slides from a video does not have to mean pausing the player, hiding its controls, and taking one screenshot at a time. Video to Slides can find presentation frames in order, let you remove duplicates or fix the capture time, and export the useful pages as a PDF or editable PowerPoint.

The short answer

Open the video slide extractor, upload a supported recording, and choose Fixed interval or AI detection. Review the result, correct any missing or mistimed frames, select the pages you need, and export them as PDF or PPTX.

Can you extract PowerPoint slides from a video?

A video does not normally contain the original PPT file. It contains rendered pictures of the slides shown during playback. A slide extractor can recover those clear visual states in order, while an editable export can use OCR and layout analysis to rebuild recognized content in a new PPTX. It cannot recover hidden speaker notes, animations, fonts, or objects that never appeared in the recording.

Use the general video to PowerPoint converter when PPTX is your primary output. If you only need a fixed document of selected frames, the free video to PDF converter processes a local file in the browser.

The video used in this example

This walkthrough uses a 9:50 EMS training presentation about public health. It is a useful test because its seven completed slides are revealed gradually. Capturing the video on a timer therefore produces many repeated and half-finished states, while slide detection can keep a much smaller set of completed pages.

Why manual video screenshots fall short

A presentation recording may contain dozens of visual changes. Capturing them manually requires you to find every transition, wait for animations to finish, hide the player controls, save each image, and keep the files in order. Miss one short-lived page and you have to search through the timeline again.

What a useful extraction workflow should preserve

  • The completed version of each presentation slide.
  • Readable diagrams, charts, and text at the source resolution.
  • The original presentation order.
  • The exact source time for later corrections.
  • Only the pages you want in the final PDF or PowerPoint.

What extraction does not do

This workflow captures slide content already visible in the recording. It does not turn narration over a speaker-only video into newly designed presentation slides.
Step 01Video source

Upload the presentation video

Add the original recording so its timeline remains available for precise extraction and corrections.

Go to Extract Slides from Video and drag the recording into the upload area or click Select File. The local upload workflow supports MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV files. After the file is checked, you can choose the detection and storage options before starting extraction.

Step 02Visual changes

Choose a slide detection method

Use free, predictable timeline captures or AI-assisted detection for a cleaner starting point.

Fixed interval

Fixed interval captures one frame every few seconds without AI. A shorter interval reduces the chance of missing a brief slide, but it also produces more duplicates and intermediate animation states. In this example, we selected one frame every 3 seconds and stored the project in the browser.

The 9:50 recording produced 198 selected frames. The opening title and each progressively revealed bullet slide appeared several times. The timeline coverage was thorough, but turning it into a seven-page deck would require substantial manual review.

AI detection

AI detection looks for meaningful slide changes and removes many repeated or incomplete frames before review. It uses cloud processing, so Save to cloud is selected automatically. Processing this 9:50 video uses one cloud task and 10 AI detection credits because usage is rounded up to the next full minute.

AI detection returned seven distinct slides in presentation order. Instead of dozens of partial bullet reveals, the result kept the title, objectives, public-health topics, and summary as complete pages.

Detection is a starting point

Fixed interval favors predictable coverage, while AI detection favors a cleaner initial result. Whichever method you choose, check every selected page before exporting the final file.
Step 03Files dashboard

Review the extracted slides

Inspect the ordered slide grid and keep only the complete, useful pages you want to export.

When extraction finishes, the project opens in Files. The grid keeps every capture in video order and shows the timestamp below each page. Select or deselect slides according to what should appear in the final deck. Remove repeated pages, partial animations, speaker-only views, loading screens, and any other frame that does not add information.

A quick slide review

  • Does every selected page add information that is not already present?
  • Is this the complete slide rather than the middle of an animation?
  • Are diagrams and small text readable at the source resolution?
  • Have speaker views, blank screens, and loading states been removed?
  • Do the selected pages still follow the presentation order?

The toolbar reports both the total number of extracted slides and the number currently selected. PDF and PowerPoint export use only the selected pages, so finish this review before creating the final file.

Step 04Source timeline

Correct missing or mistimed slides

Use the uploaded video to insert a missed page or replace a frame captured at the wrong moment.

Use Insert when an important slide is missing. The dialog limits the source range to the gap between the surrounding slides; for example, the screenshot below inserts a frame between 0:00 and 0:19. Scrub the preview or fine-tune the capture time, then add the page in the chosen position.

Use Replace when the correct slide was found but its frame was captured too early, during motion, or before an animation finished. The preview lets you move through the source video and replace the page with the clearer moment—in this example, at 6:42.5.

Correct before exporting

Insert and Replace select a different frame from the original video; they do not alter the recording. Finish corrections, delete unwanted pages, and confirm the selection before creating the export.
Step 05Output

Export PDF or editable PowerPoint

Create a fixed visual document or turn the selected pages into an editable presentation.

Download a PDF

PDF export places the selected slide images into one ordered document. Choose it when you need a fixed visual reference for reading, studying, or sharing. Text remains part of each slide image. For a local, fixed-interval workflow, open the video to PDF converter.

Export an editable PPTX

Editable PowerPoint export reconstructs recognized text and layout as elements you can select and change. It uses 60 credits for each selected page. The screenshot below shows the title selected for editing in the exported presentation. You can also start directly from the video to PPT page.

Reconstructed text and layout can require small corrections. Check names, numbers, line breaks, logos, and other important details against the original recording before reusing the deck.

Common questions

Can I extract video slides without uploading the source file?

Yes. Choose Fixed interval and Store in browser to process the project on the current device. AI detection and cloud storage upload the video for cloud processing.

Can the slide extractor remove duplicates automatically?

AI detection removes many similar and incomplete frames before review. Fixed interval follows the clock and may return duplicates for you to exclude manually.

What happens to a browser-stored project if I change devices?

It remains in the browser where it was created. It does not sync across devices, and clearing that browser's site data can remove the local project.

Can I fix a slide captured at the wrong time?

Yes. For an uploaded source video, use Replace to scrub to a clearer frame and fine-tune its capture time. Use Insert when the entire slide is missing from the extracted sequence.

Which video formats can I use?

The local upload workflow supports MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV files. Maximum file size and video duration depend on the current plan.

Which export should I choose?

Choose PDF when you need a fixed visual copy. Choose editable PPTX when you want to revise recognized text or reuse the slide content in a new presentation. Editable reconstruction is a starting point: accuracy depends on the video resolution, compression, font size, and slide complexity.
